- 국경을 넘나드는 텍스트의 욕망 ― ‘김정은 시대’ 북한소설의 재외 과학자들 -
북한문학에서 ‘조선’을 제외한 세계는 부정적인 이미지로 묘사되는 것이 일반적이었다. 이러한 텍스트는 대부분 처참한 자본주의 현실을 고발하고 북한 체제의 우수성을 증명하는 서사로 구성되었다. 그러나 최근 북한문학에는 유럽을 유학하고 돌아온 인물이 세계와의 경쟁이라는 새로운 지평을 제시하는 장면이나, 독일과 같은 유럽국가를 배경으로 인물의 내적 갈등을 독자들에게 펼쳐 보이는 텍스트가 등장한다. 이는 이전 시기의 북한문학 텍스트와 비교하여 볼 때 뚜렷이 구분되는 독특한 변화의 지점이다. 그러므로 이 글은 ‘김정은 시대’의 북한소설이 보여주는 반복과 변주의 장면들을 짚어나감으로써 북한문학이 시도하는 새로운 풍경의 가능성을 살피고, 그 의미를 읽어내고자 한다. 특히 2017년 이후 서방 국가를 그 배경으로 서사를 전개하는 소설들이 발표된 바 있는데, 이들 텍스트는 대륙간탄도미사일의 발사 성공을 비롯하여 세계 내에서의 인정 욕망이 교차하는 장으로서 흥미로운 텍스트이다. 따라서 이 글은 ‘조선’의 바깥을 배경으로 전개되는 북한의 소설 텍스트들을 집중적으로 살핀다. 특히 최근 북한문학의 흥미로운 변화를 보여주는 두 편의 텍스트인 2018년에 발표된 단편소설 ｢박수 소리｣와 2020년에 출판된 온영수의 장편소설 자화상을 분석한다. 이를 통해 오래된 북한문학의 전형성과 현재 북한문학의 욕망이 겹쳐지고 충돌하면서 드러나는 문학적 장면들을 읽어내고자 한다.
Desire of Cross-border Text ― Overseas Scientists of the North Korean Novels during the “Kim Jong-un’s era”
In North Korean literature, the world except “Chosŏn” was generally portrayed as a negative image. Most of these texts consisted of narratives denouncing the disastrous reality of capitalism and proving the superiority of the North Korean regime. Recently, however, North Korean literature features scenes in which a person who returned from studying in Europe presents a new horizon of competition with the world and texts that unfold the inner conflict of the characters against the backdrop of European countries such as Germany. This is a distinctive point of change compared to the texts of North Korean literature from the previous period. Therefore, this article seeks to examine the possibility of new landscapes attempted by North Korean literature by pointing out the scenes of repetition and variation shown by North Korean novels of the “Kim Jong-un era.” In particular, since 2017, novels that develop narratives against the backdrop of Western countries have been published. They are interesting texts that reveal the desire of North Korean society to be recognized in the world. Therefore, this article focuses on North Korea’s novel texts set in Europe. In particular, it analyzes two texts, which show interesting changes in North Korean literature,―the short story Clap Sound published in 2018 and the full-length novel Self-Portrait published in 2020. Through this, I attempt to show that literary scenes which are revealed as the typicality of old North Korean literature overlap and clash with the desire of current North Korean literature.
